Surrounded by Angels

So I have posted this once before…but I am posting about it again 🙂 A while back hubby and I discovered the most amazing artist, Augusto Sanchez. He creates the most incredible art that just screams to you. I am unable to turn away from his angels, they are just the most beautiful, mysterious, peaceful creatures. And his art is mixed media, so you just want to reach out and touch them all. There is just such emotion behind these angels, you cannot help but be mesmerized. Sadly—hubby and I are poor folk 😀 I would sell a kidney for one of his angels…but I cannot afford the procedure (remember? I’m poor folk) So, I must settle for his prints. Augusto makes his art affordable for everyone~ you can buy a 16×20 print for $50, for a fraction of the cost of the original you can have a print made, and he then adds the mixed media effects to the print—these prints look JUST LIKE the original! Or, you can be lucky and buy an original. In case there is anyone rich out there…my birthday is next month 😉 Okay—I swear I don’t work for Augusto…I just really looooove his art and think everyone should check out his work and have an angel on their wall! Go check out his stuff—ASTREAAZUL (if you have dial up, you might be screwed 😦 I can only view his site on my work computer.) Anyways…go look and buy!

So the point of this post? I got more angels! YAY! Hubby thinks that I stalk poor Augusto (I admit, I have quite a weak spot for the latin boys 😉 but I swear…his art is killer! So finally he was at an art festival in our area…so to Sarasota we went, and hunted down my angels. My birthday is next month, and this was to be my present. So hubby put the stern foot down and restricted me to two angels. JUST TWO *gasp* how is a girl to choose???? Well guess what? Hubby was then swept up by the spell of the angels and he could not decide either. So happy birthday to me! We got four angels, plus two special little gifts from Augusto for my b-day as well as some very encouraging words regarding my photography (he has visited my little blog here…Could a girl be any happier???? So now, I am surrounded by my angels. I LOVE them…simply the best birthday presents I could ask for. Thank you hubby, and thank you Augusto!

as far as the quality of my pics…ignore the bottom right shadows! I took these really quick in a small room, with the prints sitting on the floor~not the most ideal setting 😦  Also…I added the titles and his name to these…that would not normally be there.

So once again…go check Augusto Sanchez out! ASTREA AZUL the page takes a moment to load…be patient, it’s worth the wait :)!

Oooooh, Look What I Got…

Okay, so these are pretty crappy pics, but this is what I call- I was too lazy to grab the tripod and was just too excited to finally get my stuff!

So go on, you can oooh and aaah. Pretty, right? careful! I think you’re drooling! So FINALLY, my seamless paper and stand came. Yay for new toys!!! I am very excited to have this stuff and be able to add a new element to my world of photography learning.

I absolutely could not stand to NOT play real quick, so with little light left I set it up in front of a window and looked at Tinker with pleading eyes. I have a lamp that is kinda crazy for photography, it has an orangish glass globe thingy, so that on top of my yellow and brown walls created the most repulsive color cast…hence the black and white! But I did leave the one of her on the red paper in color so you can see the paper…it ROCKS!!!

Is that color cast, or what?! Yuck, but look at that red! Gorgeous!

Photo Funk

Ahhhh, the bad blogger returns. I gotta tell you, this photo a day stuff is just not working out! It is not as easy as it sounds. Plus, I am in a funk. I have this huge burning ball of creativity roiling around inside of me…and I can’t seem to release it. Ever feel like that? It is driving me nuts!!! I just want to create. Anything. Just create. But I am stuck 😦 However…I have had big thoughts this past week. Isn’t that scary? I have realized I am getting stagnant with my photography. Not a fun feeling…but probably where the funk is coming from, huh? Anyways…I feel like I have sorta plateaued and I don’t like it. So guess what is coming in the mail tomorrow???? Ooooh, I CANNOT wait to see those big brown boxes! I am getting a background stand and three…yes THREE rolls of seamless paper. WooHoo!!!!! Now I will have a whole new learning curve to struggle with~somehow, that is exciting for me! So now I will have black, white, and red backgrounds to work with. I can’t wait. I am a bit nervous because I have a feeling it will take me some time to learn how to use them, especially since I don’t have lights…but I am going to do it dammit! Plus, I already have big plans for the red…can’t you just see a little tan chihuahua against red?! Cute, right?!
Anyways…it’s not much, but it is all I have gotten. Isn’t my little guy growing great? Looong story about the other two, I’ll get into some other time.

So, those are not the greatest…I’ve got some more I will post once I go through them and edit.

Packing It Up…

Hubby says I should be punished for animal abuse, but look what I found!!!!…..

Seriously…can this be any more freakin’ adorable? We have a collapsible water bowl that we roll up and hook to Koda’s harness whenever we go for a walk~it is sooo funny to see the difference in how he walks when he has it on, compared to not. You can see that he just feels sooo important carrying that waterbowl…he shakes that fuzzy butt like he is someone. So you know I had to get this for him!!! We haven’t gone out with it yet, but I can’t wait to see the prancing it will cause!

I am walking around with a new nametag…hello, my name is Slacker. Somehow, I have decided to interpret a photo a day as a photo whenever I get around to it. No good. I have got to put more effort into this, otherwise what are the chances I will learn anything, or grow from this?! Anywho, no more chit chat, I have to go to that place I call work, and they would not appreciate me BWWing (blogging while working), so here are some quickies….

Daring Rescue Mission

Ahhhh, the theme. What’s that???  I think that it is naturally ingrained in my genetic make up to rebel!
So this little beauty is a brand new butterfly. I love these guys~ they look even more fragile than a not-new butterfly. Their wings are all smooshed up from being crammed in a cacoon, they are dazed from suddenly being exposed to this crazy little bug world, basicallt they don’t know what the heck is going on. I discovered this little girl on Monday, clinging to our cactus while she acclimated to her new world. Obviously, I got my camera. Well, I quickly discoved problem #1…anyone who has been keeping up with this blog knows that I dislocated my knee a month ago. WELL~ you try kneeling on the ground in an ackward position while trying to get the shoot of said brand new butterfly. Hmmmmm….nope. I bet you are thinking this is where the dramatic rescue mission comes in. WHO is going to get Kristie up off the ground???!!! Sorry to disappoint. I grumbled and groaned (and I think yelped too) and got myself up—with no good shots. 😦 Oh well…I was okay with giving up a shot to save my knee. Priorities, ya know?
Tuesday came around, and guess who was still hanging around? I think she was mad she got jipped out of her photo shoot. Damn it! What was I saying about priorities? So I shot through the pain—and still didn’t get any great shots. I had to shoot in auto…couldn’t handle fiddling with the controls while trying to keep my knee where it is supposed to be, plus the lighting was poor and I was hand holding. Don’t worry, I am getting to the rescue mission…but first check her out~ The post processing looks inconsistant because it is…I am finally playing with my Itty Bitty Actions that I bought months ago, so I had some fun….

I have no idea what happened to this one. When i resized for the web, it got that crinkly look. Strange.

So there she is in all her beauty. Until I came home from work on wednesday. Yup, we are finally at the daring rescue I have been teasing you with. I got home from work yesterday, and she was gone. I figured she had finally flown away. Wrong. It has been pretty windy here, and the cactus she had been clinging to happened to be close to our pond. See where this is going? 😦  I was heartbroken when I saw her. All I could see was her wings, her body and head were under a leaf. I just knew she was dead. How could she not be? The water is cold. Her head is under slimy leaves and pond algea. And she is a delicate butterfly for peat’s sake! I couldn’t handle just leaving her there, so I got a little stick to fish her out, preparing to do my first butterfly funeral. Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit! Her little legs started moving and she clung to my stick! I got her out and her whole head was COVERED in yuckies. I rinsed her little face with (clean) water droplets from the hose, and she just clung to my finger. I got her all cleaned up—anyone ever tried to bathe a butterfly? I don’t recommend it! I have my plant that is being occupied by my little catapillars in the lanai…so in we went. I coaxed the girl onto a leaf, and she is still there. She is all dry and has been pumping her wings…a good sign i think. If she is still doing good when I get home today I might try to get some more shots. I didn’t want to stress her out any more yesterday by shoving my lens in her face, I figured she might not appreciate that too much!

By the way…what do you think of my new watermark? Can you believe it has taken me this long to realize how to adjust the opacity????
